Cédric Breisacher is a designer sculptor. In his studio at the Jardin des métiers d'Art et du design (JAD) in Sèvres, he creates objects and furniture for everyday use that awaken our imaginations. Driven by ultra-local manufacturing and linked to an instinctive production process, his creations attempt to re-establish a dialogue in respect of the living.

Cédric Breisacher's practice is based on experimentation through making, characterised by an essential approach to the object. In an instinctive and sometimes primitive way, he attempts to re-establish a link with the Earth and a connection with the natural elements. The hand and the sensation of touch are central to this exploratory journey. He mainly uses hand tools to reconnect with the material. By including his own body in the sculptural process, he creates a link between the human being and the material, where the tool becomes a mediator in the relationship between two living beings. The collaboration he establishes in his creations blends into a respectful dialogue with its environment.

After a period at ENSCI-les Ateliers to develop a research methodology on the issue of waste. He has turned his workshop into a circular production unit, where he uses his wood shavings to shape new pieces. Scrap materials are present in every workshop, and their shapes, colours and sizes tell the story of the workshop's know-how, its current state, its terroir and its history. They are a new (re)source of materiality, enabling the object to be repositioned in a locality and a historicity intrinsic to that of the workshop. The use of waste as a raw material calls into question current extraction models at a time when resources are becoming increasingly scarce, and highlights the urgent need to re-localise the manufacture of objects in relation to a geo-locality and our times.

" My workshop is part of a circular production system, and I use the wood shavings to shape new pieces, seeing reused materials as a new source of materiality, repositioning our relationship with production and the need to reproduce our objects locally. "
